Faith Formation

A Catholic education is central to the mission of the Church and depends on the participation and cooperation of everyone involved.  The Academy provides everyone with experiences through authentic Catholic doctrine and worship.  This philosophy helps everyone in the Academy to identify the importance of faith in their own lives.  An education based with Faith means more than passing on facts and information.  It is an encounter with Jesus.  This is not only for our teachers, but for our students as well.   Our teachers and staff do not just teach, but are role models of Christian values and living.

The key to implementation of the concept of Faith Community is found in relationships among school personnel. Teachers proclaim more by action than by word. It is incumbent upon every teacher to build the morale of one another through openness, affirmation, honesty, forgiveness, and acceptance. As mature Christian educators we are called to be One Body. We must recognize the gift each person is to this community of faith. We must sincerely support one another in difficulty, encourage one another in weakness, and challenge one another in growth.

In addition to daily prayer and classes in religion, students at Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy will participate in liturgical celebrations including Mass, Penance services, Stations of the Cross, and other celebrations.  Parents are welcome to attend and participate in any of these services along with their children.

Children in Grade 2 will be prepared for First Penance and First Holy Communion with his or her parish. Parents are required to attend all parent meetings regarding these sacraments. Regular attendance at Mass is required of all Catholics. Families are considered the “First Church” in which children learn by example.

Holy Days are full days of school. Mass will be celebrated during the school day. Parents are welcome to attend Mass with their children.
