Every month, the nurses offer students and families a different “tip” from the Nutrition Education Series. Fruits, vegetables snacks, planning, purchasing and preparing, all good information that could help the families make healthy choices.
The University of Massachusetts has a nutrition program in the Boston Public Schools and Charter schools. We are fortunate to have the UMass program come into our Academy. They come every day for six weeks and teach a nutrition class in every grade once a week, from 2.9 to Grade 8.
The children and teachers all had positive things to say about this program. They learned a great deal from these nutritionist and looked forward to these classes . This will continue in the next school year.
The children have gym once a week and learn the importance of exercise.
All of this is reinforced every month by the nurses who meet with each class about nutrition topics that help all the children learn the best way to stay healthy.
