Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,
Our Academy was built upon the foundation of providing a strong educational experience where each child is known, valued, and loved. Each day, we begin with prayer that reinforces this mission with our actions rooted in the Gospel message of human dignity, respect, love and social justice.
Sadly, we end our school year on the heels of horrible events that have deeply wounded so many and sparked protest across our nation. We stand with others who rise in protest and demand justice for Black lives after the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and many others. The Cardinal has issued two important statements which we have previously shared with you in solidarity with our country (https://www.bostoncatholic.org/news/may-30-2020-cardinal-sean-p-omalley-statement-killing-george-floyd, https://www.bostoncatholic.org/news/cardinal-sean-omalley-ofm-cap-letter-racism). In this particular moment of pain, we want to support all our families, especially our Black families, faculty, staff and friends. We value and love the diversity and richness of all the cultures in our Academy. We will continue to aspire to create a more peaceful and inclusive world.
Just as our Peace Prayer and our School Mission (provided) start our day, we will continue to use these two statements to guide our thoughts, words, actions and decisions, to teach our children, and to inspire our families, faculty, administration and board. We will continue to listen, hoping to grow in understanding of each other and to celebrate the dignity of each human being. We welcome and value your input as our board and school leadership continue to work toward these goals.
And in the beautiful words and reflection by Mother Teresa, we will continue to pray. We will pray for peace, justice and healing with the knowledge that “prayer changes us and we change things.”
